MAJOR CATEGORIES OF COUNSELING OFFERED BY ALMA COUNSELING CENTER

DEPRESSION

Brain chemistry, hormones, and genetics are just a few of the possible causes of depression, which can range from recurring, low-level bouts to major episodes. It's estimated that one in six people will experience depression at some point in their life. The good news is, in most cases it's treatable.

ANXIETY / PANIC

With more than 40 million American adults suffering from anxiety disorders each year, it's the most common type of mental issue in the U.S. Most forms of anxiety disorder are widely recognized and can be treated in a variety of ways. FYI: Anxiety often goes "hand in hand" with depression.

TEEN AND CHILD CHALLENGES

What are common mental or emotional "growing pains" versus an issue needing treatment? It's often hard to tell without an objective, professional view (which Princy Shyam can provide). Counseling can be the "safe space" where a young person learns who they are and what they need for the future.

ANGER MANAGEMENT

Whether it's public or "held inside", anger's long-term impact is easily missed. High blood pressure, damaged relationships, and increased risk of heart disease are just a few examples. Yet 75% of those receiving anger management therapy improved as a result of it, according to recent research.

ATTENTION DEFICIT

Any of the four types of ADHD makes it hard to pay attention and control one's impulses. Often starting in childhood, it can lead to difficulty with stress and organizing everyday details. Including therapy in an ADHD treatment plan can help patients better cope with these challenges.

FAMILY AND COUPLES ISSUES

The relationship dynamics in a family or a couple can be complex, and certain issues can be hard to solve without unbiased, professional help. Ignoring these issues often makes things worse ... but with the right counseling, you and your partner(s) can understand each other better, and build a brighter future together.
